Jaipur: Rajasthan College students Friday protested in University Engineer Subhash Bairwa’s office over delays in repairing collapsing ceiling patches across Rajasthan University’s constituent colleges, including damaged structures in washrooms, hostels and college verandahs.A video shows students emptying a sack of debris that had fallen from a ceiling and showing it to Bairwa to highlight the gravity of the situation.Student representative Aditya Sihag said repair work has been pending for one-and-a-half years. “We staged a peaceful protest 10 days ago and were assured that work would be completed by Sept 22, but nothing happened. Today, officials assured us that the repair process, including tendering, would begin by Monday,” he said. He added that students would not engage in further peaceful talks if authorities failed to act soon.The university official said the issues would be reviewed and discussed with college principals for an early resolution.The protest followed mounting student grievances over repeated incidents of ceiling debris falling across Rajasthan University’s constituent colleges. These included an Aug 13 incident at Rajasthan College, reported by TOI, in which plaster peeled off and fell from the ceiling. College principal Vinod Kumar Sharma had said administrative sanction of Rs 10 lakh was received and minor repairs would begin within one to two days. However, nearly six weeks later, work is yet to begin.
