(Graphics on mail)Jaipur: The second and final phase of the state’s urban local body elections Friday saw a 70.7% turnout till the end of polling across 4,774 wards, with Balotra’s Dhorimanna Municipality registering the highest voter participation at 91.5% and Sirohi Municipal Council the lowest at 62%.The final voter turnout across 309 urban bodies (including 162 in the first phase) now stands at 73%.Among municipal corporations, Jodhpur registered the highest turnout at 71.1%, followed by Pali at 71%, Udaipur at 67.2%, Kota municipal corporation at 64.7%, and Ajmer at 63.6%. JMC recorded a 63.5% turnout till the end of polling, the lowest among all municipal corporations.

The second phase of polling covered 147 urban local bodies, which includes six municipal corporations, 20 municipal councils, and 121 municipalities.Friday’s vote was marred by multiple incidents of violence, technical glitches and allegations of bogus voting across various districts.A Congress booth agent reliever allegedly died by suicide after returning home from a polling booth in Ward 21 of Falna in Pali. At Chirawa in Jhunjhunu district, supporters of BJP candidate Sunil Bhadia and independent candidate Ramesh clashed at a polling booth in Ward 38 over allegations of bogus voting. The situation escalated into a scuffle before police intervened.

In another incident at Chirawa, an independent candidate from Ward 28, Ashok Sharma, suffered injuries after being allegedly attacked by two youths near Court Road Friday morning. He was initially taken to a private hospital before being shifted to Chirawa sub-district hospital, from where he was referred to Jhunjhunu district hospital after his condition reportedly deteriorated.In Dausa, a heated exchange took place at polling booth No. 79 after BJP candidate Yogesh Sharma’s booth agent accused the daughter of Congress MP Murari Lal Meena’s media in charge of casting a bogus vote.

Congress state president Govind Singh Dotasra condemned the incidents of violence reported from various parts of the state, calling for action against those responsible.Referring to the death of a Sikar resident, Fayyaz Mirza, as “extremely painful”, Dotasra alleged that he had been hit by a vehicle belonging to a BJP candidate in Katrathal. He demanded the immediate registration of an FIR in the matter, the arrest of the vehicle’s driver, and appropriate compensation for the victim’s family.Friday’s polling was briefly disrupted at some booths due to EVM-related technical issues. Voting at a polling station in Ward 25 of Singhana municipality in Jhunjhunu started around 50 minutes late due to an EVM malfunction.

In Lalsot, Dausa, BJP and Congress candidates alleged bogus voting in Ward 10, leading to a commotion. Police reached the spot and used mild force to disperse the crowd. A similar confrontation over alleged bogus voting between supporters of the two parties was also reported from a polling booth in Chauhtan, Barmer.In Sikar’s Ward 18, police detained the son of a Congress candidate after he was accused of casting bogus votes. Police reportedly found him hiding in a house opposite the polling booth.

In Ward 15 of Sikar Municipal Council, supporters of a Congress candidate allegedly assaulted the husband of a BJP candidate, prompting police to break up the crowd using mild force.Tensions also flared up between BJP and Congress workers during polling in Ward 8 of Khudala Falna Municipality in Pali, with supporters of both parties allegedly exchanging blows in the presence of police.
