Jaipur: Over 87 lakh voters will decide the fate of 18,266 candidates across 4,852 municipal wards in Rajasthan’s second phase of urban local body (ULB) elections Friday, with polling being held across 147 urban local bodies, including six municipal corporations, 20 municipal councils, and 121 municipalities.More than 24 lakh voters will exercise their franchise across 150 wards of Jaipur Municipal Corporation (JMC), where 723 candidates are in the fray. The second phase will see voting at 9,758 polling stations across the state.Security arrangements have been strengthened for the elections, with more than 90,000 police personnel expected to be deployed across the polling areas. JMC has 652 polling stations identified as critical, requiring enhanced security arrangements.The second phase follows polling in 5,393 wards Wednesday, which recorded a final turnout of 76.4% by the end of polling. Arnod municipality in Pratapgarh registered the highest turnout at 92%, while Bhilwara Municipal Corporation recorded the lowest at 63.8%.

The first phase was marked by incidents of violence and clashes between supporters of rival candidates at several places.
