Jaipur: With campaigning for Jaipur Municipal Corporation (JMC) polls ending Wednesday, the city entered the mandatory 48-hour silence period ahead of Friday’s voting.The district administration has barred rallies, processions, public meetings and other campaign-related gatherings across the civic limits during the period to ensure free and fair polling.Officials said liquor sales at off-shops had also been prohibited from 6pm on Wednesday until the close of polling on Friday.“Candidates, party workers and residents have been instructed to comply with election laws and refrain from spreading rumours or provocative messages. Enforcement teams and police units have been directed to monitor sensitive pockets and act swiftly against violations,” a district official said.District collector Sandesh Nayak directed Jaipur Commissionerate and other agencies to maintain law and order across the JMC jurisdiction until completion of the election process.The district election office has also notified 11 alternative identity documents that voters can use if they do not carry their Elector Photo Identity Card (EPIC).The administration has declared paid leave on Sept 11 for govt employees registered as voters in the JMC area, including those posted elsewhere in Rajasthan, to enable them to cast their ballots.Meanwhile, Nayak, who is also the district electoral officer, inspected polling stations in some of the 18 urban local bodies (ULBs) in Jaipur district where voting was held Wednesday.
