Jaipur: A 40-year-old private school teacher suffered nearly 90% burns after a fire broke out following an LPG leak at her house in Anandpuri on Moti Doongri Road Monday evening. Police said the woman is battling for life at a private hospital.Police Tuesday registered a case and launched an investigation into all possible angles, including whether the incident was accidental or the result of foul play.The incident occurred around 6.30pm on the second floor of house number P-12 in Gali No. 1 under the Moti Doongri police station area. The injured, identified as Swati Saini, was reportedly alone at home when the fire broke out.“A neighbour noticed the fire, rushed to her rescue and raised an alarm. Swati suffered severe burn injuries,” a Moti Doongri police officer said.On receiving information, station house officer Mohan Singh reached the spot with a police team. “Given the nature of the incident and the condition in which the kitchen equipment was found, a Forensic Science Laboratory team was called to inspect the premises and collect evidence,” Singh said.During the preliminary inspection, police found that the LPG cylinder’s regulator and connecting pipe had allegedly been removed from the cylinder, and the stove was kept on the second floor. Investigators are trying to ascertain when and under what circumstances the equipment was disconnected.Swati was first taken to SMS Hospital in a Police Response Vehicle (PRV-112). She was later shifted to a private hospital for specialised treatment.Police said statements of Swati’s family members, neighbours and others familiar with the household would be recorded to establish the sequence of events. They are also awaiting the forensic examination report.
