Alwar: A 16-year-old girl died and 12 others were injured after a septic tank wall collapsed while they were allegedly cleaning it at a madrassa in Meelkheda village in Gopalgarh area in Deeg district Friday.The deceased was identified as Rohin, a resident of Firozpur in Haryana. According to police, around 13 girls were made to clean the septic tank and were removing accumulated debris when one of its walls caved in, trapping them under the rubble.The injured students were rushed to hospitals and later referred to Alwar for treatment. Police said all the injured were discharged after receiving medical care. Following a post-mortem examination, Rohin’s body was handed over to her family.Officials said the septic tank measured about 30 feet in length, 8 feet in width and 10 feet in depth. Although the sewer was reportedly cleaned around 10 days earlier, debris accumulated again, and the madrassa administration allegedly asked the girls to remove it.District collector Mayank Manish Agrawal and SP Kamble Sharan Gopinath visited the site and initiated an inquiry. Police registered an FIR against four people associated with the madrassa administration — Mohammad Arshad, Mohammad Rashid, Mohammad Asjad and Rizwana. The investigation is underway.Gopinath said that strict action will be taken against those found responsible.Reacting to the incident, Minister of State for Home Jawahar Singh Bedham termed it “shameful” that girl students were allegedly made to clean a septic tank. He said the district administration was monitoring the case and that action would be taken against those responsible in accordance with the law.
