Ajmer: A man accused of stealing mobile phones from train passengers was caught by locals after allegedly knocking a passenger’s phone onto the railway track and attempting to flee near the CRPF bridge Sunday morning.According to the Govt Railway Police (GRP), a youth from Dausa was travelling by train from Ajmer to Jaipur and was standing near the coach door, using his mobile phone. As the train crossed the CRPF bridge, the accused allegedly threw a water bottle at him, causing the phone to fall onto the tracks.The passenger immediately jumped off the moving train and chased the accused, who was fleeing with a woman. The chase ended near Raja Cycle Circle, where bystanders overpowered the accused, thrashed him and recovered four mobile phones and several watches from his bag.Personnel from Alwar Gate police station also reached the spot but transferred the case to the GRP as the incident fell under its jurisdiction.GRP officials said an FIR was registered on the victim’s complaint. The accused has been detained and investigation is on.
