Jaisalmer: A woman village development officer (VDO) was found hanging at her rented home in Barmer district’s Sedwa police station area late Friday evening. She was in the room by herself at the time, police added.Police said that after receiving information, they reached the location. With the VDO’s room partner and a relative present, the body was taken down and placed in the mortuary at Sedwa Hospital. On Saturday, after family members reached there, postmortem was carried out and the body was later handed to the family.Chohtan DSP Jetharam said Ujla Verma, who lived in the Nimka police station area in Sikar, served as a VDO in the Kundanpura gram panchayat under Sedwa panchayat samiti in Barmer district. She was responsible for two gram panchayats and that her original posting was in Kundarpura.Police said Verma stayed at the Sedwa subdivision headquarters in a rented house with her room partner, who was employed at the post office. Police said that on Friday evening, when she was alone, she allegedly hanged herself in the room. When the room partner returned later at night, the room was locked from inside. Police said that as calls were not answered and the door was not opened, the police were contacted.Police said that after the door was opened, Verma was found hanging. The DSP said no suicide note was recovered so far, and the circumstances behind the death were under investigation.
