Jaipur: A viral claim that a teen was set ablaze by a group turned out to be false, with police finding that the 18-year-old set himself on fire while attempting a reel after a fallout with his girlfriend.Police rushed to Kalwar around 10.15 pm on Friday after a PCR call alleged that two-three boys had poured petrol on the youth and torched him. However, on reaching the spot, investigators found no evidence of an assault.“Initial information suggested an attack, but the claim is baseless. No evidence of others being involved has surfaced,” a police officer said.Probe revealed that the teen was distressed after his girlfriend stopped speaking to him and had shared his condition with friends. On Thursday night, he allegedly poured petrol on himself and ignited it while trying to record a stunt video.Police have recovered a video clip showing him carrying out the act. “The footage clearly establishes that he set himself on fire. It helped us rule out the assault angle,” the officer added.Despite this, social media posts amplified the ‘attack’ narrative, fuelling outrage before facts emerged. Police are now examining who was present during the filming and how the video was recorded and circulated.
