NGO engaged by JMC served notice after dog cruelty video

Jaipur: Referring to TOI’s April 1 news report, ‘Dog cruelty during ‘rescue’ sparks outrage’, Jaipur Municipal Corporation (JMC) Wednesday issued a show cause notice to Sneha Animal Welfare Society, a Gurgaon-based NGO engaged to carry out animal birth control (ABC) measures. TOI had reported on April 1 that workers of the NGO were seen on video capturing stray dogs with cruelty. The notice issued by the deputy commissioner of JMC said the NGO was assigned task of ABC programme at the dog center in Jaisinghpura Khor under the erstwhile JMC-Heritage, which is now JMC Part-2.The civic body said the agency appeared to have violated two conditions. First, it allegedly breached the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960, by capturing stray dogs in a cruel manner. Second, it was accused of operating beyond the territorial jurisdiction mentioned in the work order.“You are hereby notified through this notice to ensure the submission of your explanation—along with supporting evidence/documents—before the undersigned within 3 days regarding the published news report and the video viral on social media. Failure to do so will result in appropriate action being initiated against you,” the notice stated.
