Jaipur: Mahal Road in Jagatpura will become a signal-free corridor within eight to nine months as the Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) plans to redesign all seven intersections along the stretch to ensure smoother traffic movement.Officials said the plan aims to reduce travel time on the 9-km stretch between Jagatpura and Ramchandrapura from nearly 40 minutes to around 15 minutes. “Under this plan we are going to block the road divider of Mahal Road at seven intersections between the No 7 Crossing and the Ramchandrapura Chauraha on Mahal Road. Instead, we are going to construct loops to make U-turns barely 200 metres away from the crossing so that vehicles travelling straight on Mahal Road need not have to stop to give way for vehicles taking right turn from opposite direction,” an official said. JDA has already floated a tender for the project and construction work is expected to begin by April. Officials said the project is likely to be completed within six months after work starts. Earlier, JDA developed signal-free crossings at Laxmi Mandir Tiraha and later at B2B Crossing as part of efforts to streamline traffic in the city. Explaining the proposed traffic movement at No 7 Crossing, an engineer said vehicles travelling between Airport Road and Ram Nagariya Road will take a left turn at the intersection onto Mahal Road, then use the loop to take a U-turn and return to the crossing to proceed in the desired direction. Similarly, vehicles coming from Jagatpura flyover towards Airport Road will move straight towards Akshay Patra Temple, take a U-turn through the loop and then turn left towards Airport Road. Similar arrangements will be implemented at other intersections along the road.
