Jhunjhunu: Four persons were arrested Tuesday for allegedly extorting money from crusher operators by posing as officials linked to a human rights body in Sikar’s Neemkathana region under Patan police station area.Station house officer Ramesh Kumar said the accused used a car fitted with a police logo and a Rajasthan state grievance officer plate to intimidate operators during fake inspections and demand money.According to a complaint by Kashtpura resident Liladhar Saini, an accountant at Star Stone Crusher near Bhageshwar Dokan, four men arrived at the unit around 4.30pm on March 16 in an Alto car. Pretending to inspect mining documents, they allegedly threatened to shut down the crusher and demanded money. The staff paid Rs 4,000 after negotiation.Subsequent inquiries revealed the accused had no links with any human rights commission and were carrying out extortion fraudulently. Police said the same group also extorted Rs 10,000 from another unit, Mukkad Crusher, in Nathuwala.Mining Association office-bearers said the accused were misusing the name of an organisation to threaten operators. Acting on suspicion, locals and association members caught the four and handed them over to police.The accused, identified as Bhainruram Gurjar, Rameshchand Raigar, Rohitash Kumar and Tulsiram, were later arrested. Officials said the accused wore formal attire and carried identity cards to appear authentic. Further investigation is underway.
