Jaipur: Police arrested a 27-year-old man on Sunday evening for allegedly murdering his wife in the Bagru area of Jaipur and later attempting to mislead investigators by pretending to be unaware of the crime.The accused, identified as Ravindra Mukhiya, allegedly strangled his wife Sushila Devi (26) following a domestic dispute at their rented house in Krishna Vihar Colony in the Bagru RIICO area on Saturday. According to police, the accused was addicted to alcohol and frequently quarrelled with his wife. “The accused was addicted to alcohol and often argued with his wife. On Friday, the couple had a dispute after which Sushila left the house with her children and went to stay with her sister who lives nearby,” an officer said. On Saturday, Ravindra went to his sister-in-law’s house and brought Sushila back after family members counselled the couple. However, they reportedly argued again later in the day. When Sushila’s sister called her on Saturday evening and received no response, she went to the couple’s house to check on her. “She found Sushila lying dead on the floor with injuries on her head and a scarf tied tightly around her neck. She raised an alarm and informed the police,” the officer said. After being informed, Ravindra reached the house in an intoxicated condition. Police said his behaviour appeared suspicious. “He pretended to be shocked and started hitting his head against the wall while crying near the body, even injuring himself and causing bleeding from his nose in an attempt to mislead us,” the officer said. Police initially detained the accused and questioned him after he sobered up. “He later confessed that during the argument he assaulted his wife, causing head injuries, and later strangled her,” the officer added. Ravindra was arrested later on Sunday on charges of murder.
