BMWs, Audis among 105 vehicles to lose RC over unpaid challans

Jaipur: In a major crackdown on unpaid challans and repeat offenders, the traffic wing of the Jaipur Commissionerate has asked the transport dept to cancel registration certificates of 105 vehicles. Officials said the list included high-end and luxury vehicles such as BMWs, Mercedes and Audis, which repeatedly violated traffic norms and did not settle the challans. “Based on data retrieved from the e-challan website, a list of vehicles with pending challans was made public. We have served notices to the vehicle owners asking them to settle their outstanding fines by March 9, 2026. These owners have failed to settle their outstanding,” stated Sumeet Meharda, DC traffic of Jaipur Commissionerate. Officials said the traffic wing requested the transport department to cancel the RCs under Section 53 of the Motor Vehicles (MV) Act. The section empowers registering authorities to suspend a vehicle’s registration if it is deemed a public danger (unsafe). However, the owner gets an opportunity to make a representation before suspension. On Feb 17, TOI reported that traffic department prepared a list of defaulters and decided to conduct door-to-door visits to recover unpaid traffic fines from defaulters who did not clear their challans. “Vehicle owners should not disregard the of challans issued by traffic police. Those who would not pay the fines may face legal consequences,” Meharda added.
