Jaipur traffic police implement wheel locks to curb illegal parking

Jaipur: The Jaipur Traffic Police has acquired 300 wheel-locks and has started a wheel-locking campaign against motorists who are parking their vehicles at no parking zones.DCP traffic Sumeet Meharda told TOI that till Feb 26, traffic police conducted an awareness campaign during which officers did not issue challans or impose fines, and only informed motorists.“After this awareness drive, we are going to take steps against the errant motorists. This system is a better alternative than towing as you need a less manpower and less time to execute cases against huge number of vehicles,” Meharda stated. The traffic wing formed 80 enforcement teams to address illegal parking across Jaipur. The 300 wheel-locks were distributed among the 80 teams to enforce no parking cases.“We are locking the front wheels of the vehicles with these wheel-locks and are placing a printed sticker on the wind shield of the vehicles. The stickers display the mobile numbers of the in-charge of the team, that covers that area. The vehicle owners can contact the officer and get the wheel-lock removed by paying the fine,” stated a traffic inspector.
