Rs 300cr for renovating 200 dams, ponds: Minister

Jaipur: Water minister Suresh Singh Rawat Wednesday informed the Rajasthan Assembly that Rs 300 crore has been sanctioned for renovation of around 200 dilapidated dams and ponds across the state in the first phase of works planned for 2026–27.Replying to supplementary questions raised by MLA Ghanshyam during Question Hour, Rawat said the initiative was taken at the instance of Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma to restore ageing water bodies and strengthen irrigation infrastructure. “In the first phase, nearly 200 dams and ponds in deteriorating condition will be renovated with an approved allocation of Rs 300 crore,” he said.The minister also provided details about the Bishan Samand dam and canal project in Todabhim. He said the construction and renovation work was targeted for completion by 2027. “On Nov 24, 2025, a work order was issued and work commenced on the ground,” Rawat informed the House.Earlier, in a written reply to Ghanshyam’s main question, the minister stated that under the Budget announcement 2025–26, a work order for renovation of Bishan Samand dam canal in Todabhim was issued on Feb 4, 2026.
