Jaipur: Police used water cannons and mild force to disperse Congress workers attempting to march towards the Assembly Tuesday. The protest was organised by the Sports Cell of the Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee against the renaming of MGNREGA, poor sporting facilities, a poor Budget, and inflation. Hundreds of workers gathered at Sahakar Bhavan in the Bais Godam area before beginning their march.Congress state president Govind Singh Dotasra slammed the police action, calling it, “BJP govt can’t suppress Congress protesters raising public issues.” Police set up multiple barricades near Bais Godam to prevent protesters from moving towards the high-security Assembly zone. According to officials, when workers tried to cross the barricades, security personnel first used water cannons to control the crowd. As the situation escalated, a mild lathi charge was carried out to disperse the protesters. Several workers reportedly sustained minor injuries during the clash. Police said the action was taken to maintain law and order and prevent a breach of security near the Assembly premises.
