Jaipur: At a time when the Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) has started construction of elevated roads along the Gopalpura Bypass Road and in Sanganer, the construction of the Civil Lines Road Overbridge (RoB), spanning only 400 metres, remains incomplete even after six years. Although the civic body officially set a July 2026 deadline for the project after missing at least three deadlines, a section of JDA officials claimed that the fate of the project was still under scanner. A senior JDA official claimed there are three challenges to complete the constructions – escalating project cost, land acquisitions, and clearance from the railways. “After the first contractor left the project midway, the second contractor appointed by JDA has ceased work. Negotiations are going on with the contractor on the escalating project cost. The project was kicked off in Jan 2021 with a deadline of June 2022. Almost four years have passed since the project missed its initial deadline. This huge delay would escalate the project cost significantly,” an official said. Even if JDA managed to negotiate with the contractors, there are problems with land acquisition for the service lanes. The matter of land acquisition for this project is presently sub-judice and is expected to take time to get sorted out. “But the final challenge is the most important one. Although railways have given permission on principle to carry out construction adjacent to the tracks, no one is sure how to operate trains simultaneously with these construction works. In all, the fate of the project is under scanner,” another official added.
