Jaipur: Police in Jaipur (South) busted a notorious mobile-snatching gang and arrested six accused involved in at least five registered cases. Investigators suspect their involvement in 25 snatching incidents across the city and recovered 43 mobile phones from them.Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Rajarshi Raj Varma said the arrests followed a joint operation by the District Special Team, Shivdaspura police station, Sanganer Sadar police station, and Ashok Nagar police station. The accused, described as habitual offenders, had earlier criminal cases registered against them in Jaipur city and Jaipur Rural.Police recovered 43 stolen mobile phones, two power bikes used in the crimes, and eight other motorcycles from the accused. Investigators said the gang operated with speed and precision, using high-powered bikes to snatch mobile phones from pedestrians within seconds before fleeing the spot.During the ongoing drive against mobile snatching, the District Special Team also carried out a separate Arms Act operation in the Mansarovar area. Three country-made pistols were recovered, and one accused, identified as Indresh Sain alias Chintu, was arrested.Varma said a special campaign was launched in Jaipur South to curb the rising incidents of mobile snatching and to tighten the net around repeat offenders. All station house officers were issued specific directions to intensify surveillance, conduct targeted operations, and act on intelligence inputs. The campaign was carried out under the supervision of Additional DCP Lalit Kumar Sharma, with coordinated action by police teams from multiple stations.Police also said that during a separate drive against wanted criminals launched on the directions of the police commissioner, 63 accused were arrested under Section 170 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Searches for other wanted offenders are continuing.Police said further investigation is underway to establish the full extent of the gang’s activities and to recover more stolen property.
