Bhilwara: Nimbahera Kotwali police in Chittorgarh district Tuesday said they had arrested four women, all from Uttar Pradesh, and identified their male accomplices from Ajmer and Jhunjhun districts who extorted money after duping people with fake marriages. After a marriage was solemnised, an accomplice posed as a police officer yo threaten the groom and extort money, claiming that the woman’s Aadhar and other documents were fake, Chittorgarh SP Sudhir Joshi said.Joshi said Vijay Jat, a resident of Harnawda village in Neemuch district, Madhya Pradesh, filed a report at Nimbahera Kotwali police station Monday that his family had sought marriage proposals for him through acquaintances and a marriage bureau. He received a call in this regard, leading to discussions with a person from Nimbahera who proposed marriage with a woman from a financially weak family, and demanded Rs 2,70,000 for the woman’s family. Jat and his family paid the amount and completed the wedding rituals in Nimbahera. The next day, a man called, claiming to be SP Ashok Kumar, and demand an additionalal two lakh rupees. tnn
