Jaipur: Four pilgrims were killed and five injured in a head-on collision between a van and a truck on the Manoharpur-Dausa National Highway in the city suburbs on Sunday afternoon.Raisar and Manoharpur police teams reached the spot and, with the help of a crane, shifted the wrecked vehicles to the roadside. Police sent bodies of the deceased to the mortuary at NIMS Hospital for postmortem. Traffic on the highway resumed after about 30 minutes. Police said the accident occurred around 12.55pm when a truck heading from Manoharpur for Dausa collided with the van coming from the opposite direction. “Due to the speed, the car’s front portion was completely crushed,” police said.Nine pilgrims were in the car. Police and locals pulled out those trapped inside. Three were declared dead at the hospital, while two with critical injuries were put on ventilator support. One of them later died during treatment. Four others are undergoing treatment, one of whom is yet to be identified.Police said the group came from different places for darshan at Mehandipur Balaji and headed to Khatushyamji. After the collision, the truck driver fled from the spot, police said.Raisar SHO Hem Raj Singh identified the deceased as Sunil (36), Sudhanshu Singh (42), Bhagwanaram Vishnoi (50), and Vikas. The injured are receiving treatment at the hospital.
