Jodhpur: Police Wednesday arrested a man on charges of raping a 3-year-old girl in Bilara town of Jodhpur district. Family members rushed her to a local hospital soon after the incident, where doctors referred her to Jodhpur for further treatment due to the nature of her injuries.The child was reportedly playing outside her house when she was lured away by a man on a bike on the pretext of buying her a snack. Police said he raped her at an isolated place before dropping her back outside her home and fleeing. Police identified the accused as Sajid (22), a resident of Bharatpur who worked in Bilara as a heavy machinery operator. Bilara circle officer Padamdan Ratnoo said a case has been registered against him under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act and relevant sections of the BNS.“The case will now be taken over by a special Investigation unit”, he said, adding that the child was stable but referred to Jodhpur as a precautionary measure. Outraged by news of the incident, local residents shut down the main market in town in protest and demanded exemplary punishment for the perpetrator.
