Bhilwara: Three men from Phulia Kala village in Bhilwara district drowned in Khari river Monday, after attending the cremation of four of their neighbours who had died in a car accident on Jaipur Ring Road the previous day.During the post-death ritual bathing ceremony, Mahendra Mali (25), Bardi Chand (34) and Mahesh Sharma (35) were washed away by the river’s strong currents while trying to save each other. Four others who tried to help them were hospitalised, some in critical condition. The community, which was already mourning, is now in a shock over the back-to-back tragedies.Early Sunday, Phulia Kala residents Ashok Vaishnav (47), his wife Seema (48), their son Rohit (30), and the couple’s grandson Gajraj (6) were killed along with their three relatives — Ashok’s sister Madhu (36), her husband Ram Raj Vaishnav (38) and their son Rudra (14 months) — in a horrific car accident on Jaipur Ring Road. The family had gone to Haridwar to immerse the ashes of Ashok’s father and was heading back when the car, apparently being driven drowsily at a high speed, crashed into the divider, slipped through a 20ft-wide passage, and fell 16ft below into a rainwater-filled underpass.Villagers from neighbouring areas came together to support the affected families. Bhilwara district collector Jasmeet Singh Sandhu said that the deceased were enrolled in Mukhyamantri Ayushman Arogya Yojana, which makes their families eligible for Rs 5 lakh financial aid.Sandhu alongwith local officials, Bhilwara MP Damodar Agarwal, and Shahpura MLA Lalaram Bairwa, visited the hospital where the survivors were being treated, offering condolences and assistance. Police launched an inquiry into the circumstances leading to the drowning deaths.
