Udaipur: The Udaipur police arrested 29 people Friday and seized 40 bikes, one car and one auto-rickshaw involved in the agitation on the national highway following the death of a biker after being hit by a car.According to sources, Ambalal Gameti (28), a resident of Jagdon ki Bhagal under Sayra police station area of Udaipur, was going for labour work on his bike Thursday. His bike was hit by a car and he died. The car driver fled but subsequently detained by the police, sources said. Meanwhile, agitated villagers placed the body on the highway, creating a traffic jam and demanding compensation. When police arrived to remove them while providing counselling, the crowd began pelting stones at the officers. Police dispersed the agitated crowd by firing tear gas shells. DSP Suryaveer Singh Rathore said, “Villagers had blocked the road. The agitated villagers were being counselled, during this time the crowd climbed on the hill and pelted stones. Eight police personnel were injured during the stone pelting. The police deployed forces from Sayra, including Gogunda and Kelwada, to manage the situation, which is now under control. The body has been placed in the mortuary, he said. Rathore said cases have been registered against the accused under several sections, including damaging govt property and attacking police personnel. Police forces remain deployed at the incident site as a precaution. The post-mortem was conducted late at night, and the body was handed over to the family on Friday morning. The situation is under control.
