Jaipur: Revenue amounting to Rs 1,380.7 crore was generated from a 20% surcharge levied on liquor sales in Rajasthan during the financial years 2023–24 and 2024–25. The proceeds were used to extend financial assistance of more than Rs 2,340 crore to gaushalas and for cattle conservation activities in the state, the govt told the state Assembly Thursday in a written reply to a question raised by Congress MLA Rafeek Khan.As per the figures shared in the House, the surcharge on liquor sales yielded Rs 631.04 crore in 2023–24 and Rs 749.66 crore in 2024–25, taking the cumulative income from the levy to Rs 1,380.70 crore over the 2-year period.Financial assistance to gaushalas stood at Rs 1,122.86 crore in 2023–24 and increased to Rs 1,216.28 crore in 2024–25. The total disbursement for gaushala support and cattle protection thus crossed Rs 2,340 crore.It was clarified in the Assembly that no separate amount was collected as a surcharge specifically for de-addiction or anti-intoxication purposes. The govt said assistance to gaushalas was provided under Gosamvardhan and Conservation Fund Rules, 2016 (amended in 2021), by pooling revenue from stamp duty and applicable surcharges, including the excise surcharge.
