Jaipur: As the demand for mawa and milk products surges with Diwali drawing near, health department officials have found that palm oil and milk powder are being used to manufacture milk products to meet the demand. During an inspection at Shastri Nagar doodh mandi Monday, 1,380 kg of adulterated mawa was destroyed at the spot, officials said.An official said that a food safety team reached the doodh mandi at 7.30am and inspected more than 12 establishments. The team also examined mawa kept in two pickup vehicles and one jeep at the mandi. A total of 13 samples were collected from 12 mawa traders. The team remained on the spot till late evening to complete the inspection.The official said the inspection suggested widespread use of milk powder and palm oil for preparing mawa and paneer to meet the surge in demand ahead of Diwali. Chief medical and health officer Dr Ravi Shekhawat said such manufacturers were being identified and strict steps were being taken against them.
